How the ranking was built

Boundary. Amsterdam municipality only. No nearby Haarlem, Utrecht, Rotterdam or other Dutch roasters were admitted. Each ranked item maps one current Amsterdam branch; generic brand praise is attributed to the branch most clearly discussed or the most useful verified branch, with that choice disclosed.

Counting rule. A visible named user’s first-person recommendation, positive experience, or unambiguous “this/+1” agreement counts once per venue across the entire corpus, case-insensitively. One person may endorse several venues. The unit is a distinct (username, venue) pair.

Exclusions. Upvotes, deleted or unknown accounts, bots, hearsay, wish lists, a venue merely named in a question, neutral operational remarks, and negative or ambiguous experiences were not counted. The large 2025 r/Amsterdam post opens with a list compiled from earlier discussion; that list itself was not treated as one user’s endorsement. Only its named qualifying comments entered the ledger.

Why “verified lower bound.” Reddit exposed some older threads only through partial search snapshots without stable author/comment detail. Those threads remain visible as qualitative corpus context, but their inaccessible mentions were not converted into votes. Thread URLs are used where comment permalinks were not consistently exposed.

Branches, current status, hours and map

Details were checked on 9 September 2026. Official venue pages are the default hours source. Black Gold uses a current local listing because its official site did not expose useful hours; Morning Owl uses the Zeedijk business directory because its official contact page showed only a live “today” state. DAK’s official site now places its showroom beside the roastery in Noord; it publishes scheduled openings rather than dependable daily hours, so check its calendar before crossing the IJ.

Exact addresses were geocoded through Nominatim/OpenStreetMap. DAK’s unit is based on the current showroom listing and its official Noord status; all other results resolved at house or venue level.
